The
exotic Bromeliad family has around 3,590 known species native mainly
to the tropical Americas. They come in an array of fascinating florescent
colours and patterns, leaf characteristics, shapes, sizes and growing
habits bringing an instant touch of the tropics to any garden. Bromeliad
species can either be terrestrial (grown in soil) or epiphytic (clinging
to trees and absorbing nutrients through their leaves). They are hardy
plants for the tropics and sub tropics requiring little care and attention
except an occasional watering, providing their owners with mesmerisingly
colorful displays for the little attention they receive. They can be
inexpensive from $5 - $1,000+ for rare species or new hybrids. |
